This is the first time that Bopanna and Murray have teamed up.

Also, this is the first win for Bopanna over Koohlof and Skupski pair this year after losses in the ATP500 Rotterdam quarterfinals, ATP250 Doha final and Miami Masters quarterfinals where the Indian was playing alongside Canada’s Denis Shapovalov.

In the pre-quarterfinals, Bopanna and Murray will face the all-American duo of Taylor Fritz and Sebastian Korda, who won 6-3, 7-5 against the all-German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in the opening round.

India beats Pakistan in junior Davis Cup opener

India had a smooth start as Bushan Haobam and Rushil Khosla proved too hot for Pakistan in the group-A league match of the Asia-Oceania Junior Davis Cup tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi on Monday.

Despite it not being much of a challenge for the host, captain Sajid Lodi opted to play Bushan and Rushil even for the doubles so as to get them ready for the tougher challenges ahead.

It should be interesting when India meets Indonesia, scheduled to arrive only on Tuesday and forced to give a walkover to the top seed Australia on the opening day.

In group-C, Vietnam surprised Thailand while Iran had the upper hand against Malaysia in group-B.

The top two teams from each of the four groups will qualify for the knock-out stage. The top three teams from the competition will qualify for the World Group.

The results (league):

Group-A: India bt Pakistan 3-0 (Bushan Haobam bt Bilal Asim 6-1, 6-1; Rushil Khosla bt Huzafa Khan 6-2, 6-0; Bushan & Rushil bt Hamid Israr & Huzafa Khan 6-3, 6-0); Australia w.o. Indonesia

Group-B: Iran bt Malaysia 3-0; Singapore bt Syria 3-0

Group-C: Vietnam bt Thailand 3-0; Kazakhstan bt Sri Lanka 3-0
