Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury responds to questions on Oklahoma coaching vacancy: ‘It didn’t affect me one bit’
Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is focusing on the task at hand.
During media availability on Monday morning, Kingsbury was confronted about on the news of former Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley’s departure to Los Angeles. Whenย questioned about his interest in the job opening, he responded with, “I don’t get into those things.”ย
“We’re in-season,ย we’re 9-2, just not a topic I want to touch on right now,” Kingsbury said during a Zoom call with reporters. He also added that his main focus is on facing the Bears, who are coming off aย 16-14 victory over the Lions on Thanksgiving.ย
Following the announcement of Riley’s departure from Oklahoma, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Sooners were targeting Kingsbury as a potential replacement. According to Schefter, Kingsbury has one year remaining on his contract with Arizona after this season.ย

Meanwhile, Kingsbury claimed that the announcement didn’t deter him from his NFL responsibilities on Sunday. He told reporters that he spent the entire day in his movie room watching game film and binging the Queen of the South series, adding that the announcement didn’t affect him one bit.ย

Kingsbury will continue to prepare for the Cardinals’ matchup against the Bears, which is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 5.
The Cardinals currently sit atop of the NFC West and have the inside track for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Arizona is a game up on the Packers and Buccaneers in the loss column, though they do not hold the tiebreaker over Green Bay. The Packers won their head-to-head matchup back in Week 8. The Cardinals do not play Tampa Bay during the regular season.
