Cris Collinsworth reportedly negotiating $12.5M per year deal to stay on ‘SNF’ with NBC

NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” analyst Cris Collinsworth is in talks to earn a new contract that could pay up to $12.5 million annually through 2025. So, it looks like his infamous slide is here to stay.

The 62-year-old former Cincinnati Bengal is in his 13th season as a color analyst for the weekly primetime NFL game, working alongside Al Michaels. However, Michaels is reportedly leaving NBC after this season to head to Amazon Prime. Collinsworth is expected to stay on NBC, instead working with Mike Tirico, who occasionally fills in for Michaels on the broadcast.

Collinsworth’s new contract, reported by NY Post’s Andrew Marchand, would last through 2025. NBC is reportedly “deep into negotiations” with Collinsworth about this deal.

This news shuts down rumors that Collinsworth could be heading to Amazon Prime with his fellow “Sunday Night Football” broadcaster. It isn’t official yet if Michaels will be heading there or not. There is also no official front runner in terms of hiring an analyst for Amazon’s broadcast.ย

Amazon Prime is taking over the rights to “Thursday Night Football” next year after partnering with NBC Sports. The games will not be broadcast on NBC, but instead the NBC broadcastย will be streamed on Amazon Prime. Currently, Fox owns the rights to “Thursday Night Football” with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman broadcasting.

Since NBC hired Drew Brees in March 2021, there was speculation that NBC could be preparing Brees to eventually take over for Collinsworth as the color analyst. With this contract news, though, this transition could be delayed a few more years.

Currently, former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has the largest sportscasting contract in history with CBS. Romo’s contract is a 10-year $180 million deal, and it’s set a very high standard for sportscasters moving forward.ย

Super Bowl LVI in 2022 will mark Collinsworth’s fifth Super Bowl broadcast. The next Super Bowl that NBC will air will be in 2025, which would be the last year in his new contract.
