Is Stephen Curry playing tonight? Star guard’s status for breaking 3-point record in Warriors vs. Knicks

The NBA’s 3-point record will soon be Stephen Curry’s.

Following Golden State’s win over Indiana on Monday, the Warriors star is only one 3-pointer away from tying Hall of Famer Ray Allen for first place on the NBA’s all-time leaderboard and two 3-pointers from overtaking him.

Curry is making an average of 5.4 3-pointers per game this season. History is on the line the next time he takes the court.

Is Stephen Curry playing tonight?

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday when they head to New York to face the Knicks.

Initially, Curry’s availability for Golden State’s matchup with Indiana the day before was up in the air. On Dec. 10, NBA Insider Marc Stein reported that the Warriors were “weighing a night of rest” for the two-time MVP in Indiana. Two days later, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported that all of Golden State’s veterans were expected to play against Indiana, including Curry. Warriors head coach Stever Kerr then revealed after shootaround on Monday that Curry would play.

With the Warriors traveling to New York on the second night of a back-to-back, Kerr joked that he was resting Curry against the Knicks.

Kerr’s comments came before news broke that the Warriors would have to stay in Indiana overnight due to mechanical issues with their plane.

The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson tweeted “it’s not crazy to think travel issues could force [Kerr’s] hand,” but added that Curry “would likely need to be kidnapped to not carry out this career moment in MSG.”

The Warriors had not submitted an injury report as of 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Through 26 games this season, Curry is averaging 27.0 points, 6.3 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals on 43.2 percent shooting from the field and 40.1 percent from 3-point range. He’s missed one game with a bruised hip.
